If you didn’t love Giannis Antetokounmpo before, you’ll love him more after you hear how he tried to save Jason Kidd’s job as the Bucks head coach.

The big storyline in the NBA on Monday was the Milwaukee Bucks firing Jason Kidd as their head coach, but the most entertaining piece from that news came long after the fact involving Giannis Antetokounmpo.

The news broke early in the day, but there were plenty of tidbits that made the story even more interesting. For starters, Kidd wasn’t even the first to find out about the news, as Twitter exploded with tweets about Kidd’s firing before it was even made official.

After that news came out, it was reported that Antetokounmpo was very upset about the situation, and reportedly was willing to do anything he could to help save his coach’s job. ESPN’s Ramona Shelburne confirmed this on Twitter and said Antetokounmpo was on the phone with Kidd just 15 minutes before he was eventually fired.

According to Shelburne, Kidd said Antetokounmpo wasn’t happy on the phone about the news, and said he’d do anything to help keep his former coach around on the Milwaukee sideline.

“What can I do? I’ll call the owners, I’ll call my agent.” Antetokounmpo told him on the phone, according to Kidd, to which Kidd replied saying there was nothing he could do.

Obviously, Antetokounmpo’s faith in Kidd wasn’t enough to save Kidd’s position with the team, and the team will be moving in a different direction from here on out to try to get the best out of a young Bucks lineup.

Bucks assistant Jon Prunty will serve as the interim coach in Kidd’s absence, and Bucks fans will have to wait and see if Antetokounmpo and the team can get going quickly after the weird situation on Monday.
