In the span of two years, the Dallas Cowboys went from the best team in the NFC, to not even making the playoffs. Sure,  the Cowboys had to deal with a lot of adversity this season, but so did every other team in the league, and they had enough talent to overcome it. Losing star running back Ezekiel Elliott for six games certainly hurt what they do on offense, but the defense showed signs that they could be a special unit for years to come.

This past offseason, the Cowboys lost most of their secondary to free agency. That meant that they would be relying on young talent in the defensive backfield in 2017, and they did not disappoint. In fact, the Cowboys might have one of the better young units in football back there, and now they have to get better up front.

With Elliott returning next season,  the offense will be fine, though the defensive line could use some help. Picking at No. 19 in April, the Cowboys might be able to get a player like Maurice Hurst, who is going to be one of the first defensive tackles off the board. Hurst showed incredible versatility during his time at Michigan, showing a great awareness on defense, whether it was against the rush, or getting after the quarterback in the passing game.
