An elbow from Brad Marchand to the head of Marcus Johannson in a recent game has resulted in the latter getting a concussion.

Late in the third period of Tuesday’s game between the Boston Bruins and the New Jersey Devils, Brad Marchand threw an elbow at Marcus Johannson while crashing the net, causing an uproar in the hockey community. Check out the play in question:

Not only was Johannson clearly injured on the play, but according to TSN Hockey Insider Bob McKenzie, Johannson has a concussion. As if things couldn’t get worse for a Devils team that has lost nine of their last 11, and still has to play the Nashville Predators before the All-Star break.

This may seem to be hard to believe, but this is Johannson’s FOURTH injury of the season, consisting of an injured ankle, a lower body injury, and two concussions. This has caused him to miss his fair share of games this season, only playing in 29 of his teams 47 games to date.

Johannson has put up average numbers in those 29 games, recording five goals and nine assists, totaling 14 points. He likely is suffering from the physical and mental affects of having so many injuries, along with how inconsistently he has been in the line up. Hockey players are creature of habit, and it can’t be easy to miss so many games due to injury.

Marchand had a hearing on Jan. 24, per the NHL Department of Player Safety, and was suspended for five games. You can see their rationale below:

Marchand was one of the players that was elected to the All Star game, which takes place on Jan. 28. The Bruins have one more game until the All-Star break, on Jan. 25. At the time of the All-Star game, Marchand will still have four games remaining on his suspension. What the NHL decides to do in regards to this situation remains to be seen.

What do you think, hockey fans? Should Marchand be able to play in the All-Star game, even though will be serving a suspension at that time?
