Tonight, the Paramount Network debuts its six-part miniseries about the Waco siege and we’ve got all the details you need to watch Waco online.

It’s always fun to watch actors who have very famous counterparts try and break the mold and find something else to do. It happens in movies and television all the time, but since television delivers such consistent work, a lot of TV actors don’t feel the need unless they really want to go out there and try something new.

Though Gina Rodriguez did appear in last year’s Deepwater Horizon, I’ve always gotten the impression that, out of all The CW leads, Melissa Benoist wants to break out and do other work the most. I mean, why shouldn’t she? It’s not like her show isn’t under siege by terrible male-centric writing or anything like that.

Unfortunately, I’m not sure why she saw Waco as the right project to help diversify her portfolio. It’s so TV. It’s a limited series with Taylor Kitsch — who also struggled to break out and be a real star after Friday Night Lights and John Carter — and Michael Shannon, who is a respected actor … I’m just not sure for what nowadays.

So, let’s check out the series premiere synopsis for Waco, courtesy of TV Guide.

"In the series premiere, the ATF gets a tip of suspicious activity involving weapons taking place among a small religious community led by David Koresh and located at the Mount Carmel Center just outside of Waco, Texas."

To add more insult to injury, this will air on the Paramount Network, which is just Spike’s new name. Apparently, its demographic will be Middle America, and that still strikes me as counterproductive to whatever brand Melissa Benoist is trying to build. Rory Culkin, fine. Seems like a good fit. Otherwise, cults notwithstanding, I wouldn’t expect this to be the next big must-see television series.

Especially since it airs at 10 p.m. on Wednesdays.

But! The one positive thing I will say is that this also has Julia Garner in it and I loved her in Ozark. And if you’ve seen Ozark, you can take a pretty good guess at the type of character she’ll be playing here, too. That’s really saying something when you look at this cast and decide that Julia Garner is the only who could make you watch.
