There’s a new episode of Grey’s Anatomy tonight, and we’ve got all the details you need to watch Grey’s Anatomy online and tune into the episode, “Personal Jesus.”
Recently, I’ve been thinking a lot about the difference between good writing and bad writing. Most people can easily point out inconsistent writing by tracking their favorite shows’ narrative continuity or lack thereof. Then, there’s a matter of tone and figuring out whether you like a show with a lot of quips or perhaps material that focuses more heavily on dramatic elements. Either way, the dynamic of writing and what constitutes “good” and “bad” writing is different for everyone. That’s what I’ve learned.
I’ve also learned — and, of course, become really comfortable with the fact — that I lean toward shows that give their actors/characters range. I don’t want just one or two dimensions; I like my characters with upwards of 17 dimensions. For example, let’s look at Grey’s Anatomy and what they so deftly accomplished with Camilla Luddington’s Jo Wilson last week. I mean, this episode aired right after Ellen Pompeo was featured in that huge The Hollywood Reporter piece in which she talked about how difficult it is to stick with a show after 14 seasons.
In case you missed it, here’s our Grey’s Anatomy recap of “1-800-799-7233.”
When you think about what it must take to keep an actor fulfilled for that long, it really boils down to giving them arcs that help them flex all those acting muscles. Or at least, that’s what I surmised. In terms of Jo Wilson, we’ve seen her as a passive-aggressive hothead, a snarky little intern, a super compassionate doctor, and a whole range of other emotions that culminated in an amazing performance last week as Jo faced her abusive ex-husband, Paul.
Unfortunately, she’s not exactly out of the woods yet.
So let’s check out the synopsis for this week’s new episode, “Personal Jesus,” courtesy of TV Guide:
"A young boy is admitted to Grey Sloan Memorial and his case has a profound impact on the doctors. Meanwhile, April is faced with a surprising patient, and Jo continues to deal with her estranged husband."
I would never claim to be any sort of name-that-song savant, but I do like Depeche Mode. Therefore, I’m inclined to include a link to the song “Personal Jesus” for everyone right here.
