5. Rex Ryan

This choice obviously isn’t a player but former NFL coach and coordinator Rex Ryan represents a great opportunity for the new XFL. Ryan has seen success at the highest level and brings the credibility the XFL desperately needs. The unique opportunity comes from the fact that McMahon has stated he wants to bring the game to fans from a different perspective and be accessible. One of the best ways to do that would be to hire Ryan and have a camera be with him at all times on the sideline. Then, allow fans to tune in to the “Ryan Channel” if they want to experience the game from a coach’s perspective.

This isn’t a suggestion to hear just some sound bites from certain points during the game. This would mean an unfiltered look into just what happens on the sidelines of a football game in real time. Fans could be in the trenches as things are happening as opposed to seeing things edited and censored for viewing at a later date. This wouldn’t be a channel for every fan as there would surely be some…coarse language. The XFL could set up rules that prohibit opposing teams from watching this in real time so there is no competitive advantage. Ryan is also a sharp defensive mind that could stand out in an eight-team league. He could even bring brother Rob along to complete the duo.
