3. Philip Rivers

This is a projection for sure bit two years from now Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers will be 38 years old. He may not be able to hang in the NFL much past that age and it could be hard to top a recent NFL star quarterback if the XFL could land Rivers. The seven-time Pro Bowler would be a fantastic addition and let’s be honest, Rivers has seven children. He may need to keep playing football as long as possible.

Even if Rivers wouldn’t be interested in playing in the inaugural season, he’s exactly the type of player the XFL should chase after every single time. Rivers has had a very successful NFL career. He’s still in the forefront of the general public and an instantly recognizable name. NFL players that are seeing their careers come to an end may not be as quick to blow off the XFL this time around. McMahon seems serious on making changes to turn it into a more legitimate sport than it was the last time. Older NFL guys could look at the shorter schedule and be interested. It also won’t hurt that McMahon claims the players will be paid year-round as opposed to just the game checks. Players struggling to leave the game behind may chase one or two more seasons in the sun.
