2018 NBA Mock Draft: Collin Sexton could break open the New York Knicks’ ceiling
Gafford put up a big dud against Georgia this week, but he’s still a guy with the potential to help Washington off the bench for the remainder of the John Wall-Bradley Beal era.
As I continue to mention in this section, Washington is in desperate need of young depth to fill out their roster. It will be quite expensive at least through next season, at which point several big man contracts will be off the books for the Wizards. Gafford, a freshman, could use next season to continue developing before taking on a bigger role in 2019.
Against Georgia, Gafford scored zero points and grabbed just three rebounds. Georgia is a mediocre team, and Gafford has performed well against much better competition throughout SEC competition. Arkansas has struggled overall in conference play with a 4-4 record, but the freshman needs to do more with his starting opportunity.
He has become an impactful offensive rebounder and finisher, a niche that will help him throughout his career. He’s further along than most freshman big men, and would be a great addition to the Wizards’ bench.
