Miami Dolphins free agency 2018: Top 6 targets

The Miami Dolphins enter the offseason with some questions on both sides of the ball. They will look to address some in free agency, here are the top five options for them.

The Miami Dolphins had an up and down season but finished with disappointment and another year of missing the playoffs.

It started with a rough injury to quarterback Ryan Tannehill. They decided that instead of going with incumbent back-up Matt Moore to sign Jay Cutler out of the broadcast booth. Cutler played exactly how you would expect him to play. He finished the season with just under 180 yards per game and only 19 touchdowns compared to 14 interceptions.

They went through a five game losing streak midseason. That streak was broken with a win over the Broncos followed by a massive upset of the New England Patriots.

A big shocker came prior to the trade deadline. The team decided to trade the team’s leading rusher Jay Ajayi. A season ago Ajayi finished fourth in the NFL in rushing. It was a big shocker that he was traded for only a fourth-round pick to the Philadelphia Eagles.

Now, they enter the 2018 season with few certainties.

First and foremost; what happens with Jarvis Landry? Does the team bring him back or will he walk in free agency?

The offensive line and linebacker spots are also huge areas of needs for this team. Here are the top five free agent targets for this team.

Andrew Norwell, G

Former team: Carolina Panthers

The Miami Dolphins will take a long look along the offensive line. Even with the impressive play from Kenyan Drake, the Dolphins have holes up front. Their biggest weaknesses are at the guard position. That is where Andrew Norwell comes in.

Formerly of the Carolina Panthers, Norwell was an undrafted free agent out of Ohio State four years ago. He has been a solid starter for the Panthers since three games into the 2015 season.

This past season Norwell was selected as a first-team All-Pro. He will have many bidders given the offensive line play around the NFL.

Norwell would pair well up the center with Mike Pouncey to give the team a strong building block. Pair those two with Laremy Tunsil, who looks to be a solid starter at tackle, and the line is starting to come together. Fellow tackle Ja’Wuan James had his option picked up for this next season. He will likely get the first shot at starting opposite Tunsil at tackle. The former first round pick, James spent half the season on injured reserve after a strong start.That would solidify four of five spots along the front line.

Ryan Tannehill and Kenyan Drake will love to have a guy like Norwell in front of him. The massive 325 pound guard would open up holes for the offense that looks to run the ball a ton.

Miami may get outbid for Norwell though. They have money tied up to their offensive line already. Given their fourth worst in the NFL cap sheet, Norwell may be out of their price range. Restructuring James could help them out a ton on that front as well.
