After winning last weekend, Bayern Munich extended their lead atop the Bundesliga table to 16 points. To put Bayern’s lead in perspective, the four teams tied for second are closer to the relegation playoff zone than they are to Bayern. On Saturday, Bayern host Hoffenheim at the Allianz Arena. After finishing fourth last season, Hoffenheim are ninth, with 27 points, four behind second-place Bayer Leverkusen.
Bayern have been dominated at the Allianz Arena, going unbeaten in their last 31 home games. Part of Bayern’s home success has been Robert Lewandowski’s brilliance at home. The Polish striker has scored in every home game this season, finding the back of the net 12 times at the Allianz Arena. Lewandowski and Thomas Muller both scored twice in Bayern’s 4-2 win against Werder Bremen last weekend, Bayern’s sixth straight Bundesliga win. With Arjen Robben and Franck Ribéry both healthy, Bayern’s attack will even more difficult to stop, as they add width to their attack.
Hoffenheim have struggled over their last five games, picking up only five points, losing 4-1 against Leverkusen in their last game. Julian Nagelsmann’s side are still trying to replace Sandro Wagner, who led the club in scoring last season. Wagner moved to Bayern at the start of the transfer window. Mark Uth leads Hoffenheim with nine goals but will struggle to find scoring opportunities against a Bayern squad that have allowed only 14 goals this season.
