Dudley Boyz joining Goldberg in WWE Hall of Fame Class of 2018
By Nick Tylwalk
One of the greatest tag teams in pro wrestling history is the latest to receive a much deserved honor.
The WWE Hall of Fame doesn’t have a physical location, but if it did, it would soon need a branch office in Dudleyville.
Originally reported by CBS Sports and later confirmed by WWE.com, the Dudley Boyz are the latest inductees to be announced for the WWE Hall of Fame Class of 2018. D-Von and Bubba Ray join Goldberg as the only talent to be announced so far for the induction to take place during WrestleMania weekend in New Orleans.
The Dudley Boyz were perhaps the most consummate tag team of the late 20th and early 21st century, competing together in promotions all over the country and the world. Initially part of a larger Dudley family and something of a comedy act in ECW, they soon rose far beyond that and turned both tag team and extreme style wrestling into their calling cards.
They’re also among the most decorated duos ever, holding some variation of WWE tag team championships nine times, the ECW Tag Team Championship eight times, and holding gold in New Japan Pro Wrestling, TNA and the NWA. If the Dudleys didn’t win your tag team belts at some point over the last 20-odd years, they probably weren’t worth winning.
D-Von and Bubba Ray also left an indelible mark on the WWE Universe by bringing their own ECW-honed style to the forefront in the first round of TLC Matches the company put on in the early 2000s. Their legendary clashed with Edge and Christian and the Hardy Boyz elevated the status of all three teams, something that is always the goal but rarely achieved to the same degree.

They also can claim credit for one of the most beloved tag team finishing moves of all time: the Dudley Death Drop or 3D. Bubba Ray acknowledged to CBS Sports that the 3D helped them get over with fans.
"“The very first thing we knew was that it had to be different and new and unique, and it had to be out of nowhere. I’m proud to say it’s probably up there among the greatest finishes of all-time, and that’s what gave us a uniqueness that set us apart from the rest.”"
“Different and new and unique” is also an apt way to describe the Dudley Boyz as they helped shape tag team wrestling for ECW, WWE and beyond. We’ll get a chance to see them claim their spot in the WWE Hall of Fame on Friday, April 6 at New Orleans’ Smoothie King Center.
