DraftKings NBA picks January 30: Westbrook stands above the rest
We have nine games tonight, and a ton of great options. Where should we spend our money. There is a whole lot of value to be found with Detroit and the Clippers maybe not having their new toys from yesterday’s trade. Let’s check this slate out!

The money line last night was even lower with the lack of star power on the slate. It was at 248.5. My lineup with Whiteside and Irving made it in. The other failed because of my failed Sixers value.
The winning lineup was only at 312 last night. He used Whiteside and Jokic and Kent Bazemore for some reason. He also got nice value from Schroder, Barton, and Tatum.

Point Guards:
Best Bets:
Russell Westbrook ($11,700): It wont matter much if Wall misses this game or not. Westbrook put up 64 DraftKings points on the Wizards with Wall in there in the first meeting. He may get a bit of a boost with Wall out, but not enough to decide whether you want to play Westbrook or not. At this point, Russ is a pretty sure 60. If you think you can get better value elsewhere, that’s your decision.
Lou Williams ($8,200): The Clippers just blew things up by sending Griffin to the Pistons. If I had a guess, I would say that none of the new players will suit up for the Clippers less than 24 hours after the deal. That means a short handed Clippers team, especially up front. With Griffin gone, Williams will have to shoulder much of the scoring load in this one. LouWill could be in for a huge night!
Honorable Mention:
Kyle Lowry ($7,400): Lowry lit up the Timberwolves for 56.75 DraftKings points in the first meeting. Considering the Wolves are in the midst of a stretch of five games in seven days and Teague missed one of those with injury, Lowry could have another monster brewing here. The beleaguered Wolves wont get a reprieve north of the border. I love Lowry at this price despite his recent struggles.
Donovan Mitchell ($6,900): Mitchell put up 35.25 DraftKings points in the first meeting with the defending champs. Golden State is not a great defensive team, but I don’t know if Utah has the offense to keep up with them. If the Jazz have any shot at all, they are going to need Mitchell to hit a lot of shots in this one. The volume alone makes him a solid speculative play.
Jamal Murray ($6,200): Murray is capable of throwing out a huge game at any time, but he makes me nervous against the Spurs. He struggled badly against them in 23 bench minutes in the first meeting. However, it seems as though the starting job has made a huge difference for Murray here. He is going to get plenty of shots, and wont have to deal with Parker at much. I still see a solid game from Murray, but I doubt he tops 40 like he did most of last week.
Dark Horses:
Dejounte Murray ($5,900): Murray continues to be constantly above value now that he is starting for the Spurs. Of course, that’s like getting the keys to mom and dad’s Accord instead of your cool uncle’s Corvette. No matter. Murray has been over 5x value in every game since taking over the starting job. There is a lot of potential tonight even though his price is steadily rising.
De’Aaron Fox ($5,500): Fox is riding a straight of four straight games with at least 5x value if you take out the Orlando game in which he departed after only 11 minutes. The Kings have phased out George Hill just like the rest of the vets, so expect Fox to take over the role of 30 minutes per game while Hill plays about 24. The potential is definitely there for Fox against a New Orleans team that doesn’t defend the perimeter well.
Tim Frazier ($4,100): Tomas Satoransky drew the start on Saturday and likely will tonight as well, but it was Frazier who had the better game. I trust Frazier a lot more against Felton than I do Satoransky against Westbrook. This is not a great matchup for either one of these guys, but with their price this low, there is still a lot of value potential.
My pick: Westbrook(PG); Lowry(PG)
Shooting Guards:
Best Bets:
James Harden ($11,200): I think there is a pretty good chance that Chris Paul sits this one out with his groin still a bit sore. The Rockets aren’t in any danger of missing the playoffs if they rest Paul one more game. That means Harden will likely run the point against Orlando, which is the worst point guard defense in the league. Harden has struggled with his shot over the last couple of games, but that may not even matter. He will get enough assists and rebounds against the Magic to make Harden worth the price anyway.
Jimmy Butler ($8,800): Butler missed the first few games of this brutal stretch for Minnesota, so he will be well rested compared to the rest of the team. I still like him against Toronto with the rest of the team battling flat out exhaustion. I have a feeling that Butler is going to try to carry the team on his back. Due to that, there is enough potential here, and he comes $600 cheaper than last night!
Honorable Mention:
Bradley Beal ($8,400): Let me take you back to a simpler time. Five days ago to be exact. Our hero Beal put up 72.5 DraftKings points a Thunder team that still had Andre Roberson for most of that game. Oh, and John Wall played fairly well in that game too. Fast forward to tonight. Wall is out. Roberson is done for the year. Dare I say that Beal could light them up again? It seems as though the stars are aligning for another big night for Beal. Don’t expect 72 again, but in the 50’s seems likely.
Jrue Holiday ($8,300): As expected, Holiday put up pretty big numbers in the post-Anthony Davis apocalypse in New Orleans. Holiday went for 48.75 DraftKings points while still playing huge minutes. That isn’t going to change anytime soon. Davis may do more damage on the interior tonight, but I still see Holiday having another strong night.
C.J. McCollum ($7,100): McCollum had 36.25 DraftKings points in the first game against the Clippers, which would put him right where he needs to be for value. The Clippers didn’t give up any guards, which is strange because Detroit is arguably weaker there than they were at the power forward slot. At any rate, there is blowout potential here against an undermanned Clippers squad here. If I use any players from this game, it wont be the high priced ones. Even McCollum could be risky at this price.
Dark Horses:
Eric Gordon ($6,300): It seems as though DraftKings is pricing the Rockets like Paul will be out. Even so, I’m a big Gordon supporter with Paul out. Especially considering that he gets the Magic, who have been anything but on the perimeter this year. Check the status of Paul throughout the day, but if he sits as expected, Gordon is a strong play.
Reggie Bullock ($4,700): Just like the Clippers, I’m expecting Detroit to not have any of their toys ready either. That makes Bullock a great play tonight. Not only does he get the allergic-to-defense Cavs, but he will be running the show in the backcourt with both Harris and Bradley heading for the left coast. This could be a huge game for Bullock. Even if he is a chalk play, Bullock will be in all of my lineups.
Tyrone Wallace ($4,500): Wallace was playing pretty big minutes anyway. The trade likely wont have much of an effect on him, but other Clippers will be great values as well. You can pick whichever stars you want tonight because of the huge value potential between the Clippers and Pistons. Just make sure that none of the traded players are available. If they are, it will throw a wrench into my lineups. However, Wallace should be safe no matter what.
My pick: Harden(SG), Bullock(G); Beal(SG), Holiday(G), Wallace(UTIL)
Small Forwards:
Best Bets:
LeBron James ($11,300): LeBron put up 58.5 DraftKings points on the Pistons on Sunday, so he looks to be the definition of a safe play tonight. However, if Griffin is unable to join the lineup for the Pistons tonight, the blowout potential may scare me off of this one. Especially when we have Brow, Westbrook, and Harden for about the same price.
Paul George ($8,200): George had a poor day from the field against the Wizards five days ago, but in the two games since, he is 15-28 from the floor. George seems to have overcome that little hiccup without an issue. Expect him to be a significant factor for the Thunder once again. I trust George more than KD against Utah.
Honorable Mention:
Tim Hardaway Jr. ($6,500): Hardaway has hit the 35 minute mark in each of the last two games, so it would seem that any limitations are off here. He struggled in the first game against the Nets, but that was early on in the season before Hardaway really rounded into form. The Nets are still pretty good at the forward slots, so this is not a great matchup. However, if you are dropping out of the top tier, Hardaway is still the best of what’s left.
Andrew Wiggins ($6,300): Wiggins did well in the first game against Toronto, but this offense has changed a lot since that November meeting. That said, Wiggins has been playing well alongside Butler lately. With his price in this range, Wiggins can still hit value like he has in six of his last seven games.
DeMarre Carroll ($5,700): I prefer Carroll in cash games because he is so consistent. He has not been under 20 DraftKings points this calendar year while cracking 30 in seven of those contests. I expected to see Carroll take on more minutes with RHJ out, but that didn’t happen in the first game. There is no guarantee that Carroll will get more run, but he produces value without it as well.
Dark Horses:
Courtney Lee ($5,400): Lee continues to play a large role in this offense and he puts together enough defensive stats that Lee is a constant source of value. Lee is probably a better cash game play as well because his upside is capped in a New York rotation that is pretty deep when fully healthy. That said, Lee always gets 30 minutes, and is usually around a point per minute for DraftKings purposes.
Luc Mbah a Moute ($4,200): Mbah a Moute saw significant run with Ariza leaving the game early on Sunday. Ariza remains out tonight, which puts Mbah a Moute in line for a start and a significant minutes bump again. Mbah a Moute put up 22.5 DraftKings points on Sunday. He should at the very least hit that mark tonight.
Stanley Johnson ($3,900): With Harris out of the picture for one night, Johnson will likely be asked to take on more of a role in the offense. He put up 30 DraftKings points on the Cavs on Sunday with Harris in there. He could do even more damage tonight at a very low price!
My pick: Mbah a Moute(SF), Johnson(F); Johnson(SF)
Power Forwards:
Best Bets:
Anthony Davis ($11,400): Davis put up 60.75 DraftKings points on a decent Clippers front with Boogie out. This is another tougher matchup against the Kings, but I think we can expect to see pretty big totals from Davis from here on out no matter the opponent. That’s pretty much what he did last year before Boogie got to the Big Easy. Davis is worth the little risk against the Kings tonight.
LaMarcus Aldridge ($8,000): Oh, if only Griffin would play for the Pistons against the Cavs tonight. No matter I guess since DraftKings is going to lock everyone that was traded anyway. With Blake out of the picture, we either have a struggling Porzingis or Aldridge, who struggled in his first game with Denver. However, LMA wont have to tangle with Millsap in this one, so I like this matchup for him. Aldridge wasn’t the monster we expected without Kawhi, but those days may be over with the Spurs showcasing their youngsters. At any rate, Aldridge is still the focal point of the offense and plays the most minutes on the team. That makes him worth a look against Denver.
Honorable Mention:
Kevin Love ($7,200): The recent Pistons/Clippers deal could pay huge dividends for Love for one night. If Griffin doesn’t make his debut, Love with either have to deal with Tolliver or Moreland. I like those odds for Love, especially considering that he put up over 5x value anyway with the Pistons at full strength on Sunday. Keep an eye on the status of Griffin tonight. If he’s out, all aboard the Love Boat!
Markieff Morris ($5,500): Morris chewed up the Thunder for 36.75 DraftKings points last week. Not much has changed since then. The Wizards are working Morris into the rotation full time with good results. Expect another strong night from Markieff at a very reasonable price.
Zach Randolph ($5,300): Randolph took it to the Pelicans twice earlier this season with Davis in there. Now with him instead jostling with Darius Miller and Dante Cunningham, Randolph should be in for another huge night. The Kings want to play their youngsters, but they may not have a choice here. Cauley-Stein is still out, and Labissiere is questionable. If they both sit, fire up Randolph!
Dark Horses:
Al-Farouq Aminu ($5,100): Aminu hung 39 DraftKings points on the full strength Clippers in the first meeting. The Clippers are going to look like a G-league team for one night before they get their new pieces back from the Griffin deal. It is completely possible that Aminu matches or beats that total from earlier this season, which would make him a superb value tonight.
Anthony Tolliver ($4,500): Tolliver played 40 minutes and racked up 33.75 DraftKings points on Cleveland on Sunday. Now with Harris out of the picture, we could see Tolliver have a huge night again so long as Blake can’t suit up. Add this to the long line of value picks for Detroit tonight. Tolliver may be my favorite of all of them though. That’s how high the potential is.
Montrezl Harrell ($4,100): Harrell would seem to be the starter at power forward for the time being with Griffin jettisoned to Detroit. Harrell has managed to maintain most of his value even in limited minutes. We saw him put together some strong games with Griffin injured this year. I expect a nice game from Harrell for the price tonight.
My pick: Tolliver(PF); Tolliver(PF)
Center:
Best Bets:
Andre Drummond ($9,300): Drummond put up 41.75 on the Cavs on Sunday. That still leaves him below value at this price. Drummond still shot well from the field, and Detroit is going to need everything that he has to offer since they likely wont have Griffin. Drummond has the chance to dominate tonight, and his price is still a notch below elite.
Karl-Anthony Towns ($9,200): Towns was below value against last night, but he still ended up with over 40 DraftKings points. Towns ended up at 41.5 in the first matchup against Toronto. There is reason to believe that Towns will have a good floor tonight, but he is not all that likely to hit value at this price. I would pay the extra $100 for Drummond.
Honorable Mention:
Nikola Jokic ($8,500): Jokic racked up 49.25 DraftKings points in the first meeting with the Spurs. As we saw in that game, Jokic was too athletic for the Spurs to contain. I expect him to be pretty close to the production of all of the higher priced guys. If you are afraid of the ownership on Drummond, Jokic is a very suitable pivot play.
Clint Capela ($7,000): Capela finds himself in a great situation tonight against the Magic without Vucevic on the interior. Capela has had a little trouble against bigger centers lately, but this looks more like the Dallas front line than New Orleans or Miami. This should be the place that Capela gets back on track. The matchup certainly says it will be.
DeAndre Jordan ($6,800): Jordan is going to be carrying a lot of the load tonight. He put up 37 DraftKings points in the first meeting with Portland. I think we could expect more tonight unless Tobias Harris is in the lineup for some reason. Judging by recent trades, that isn’t likely to happen. Not with such a quick turnaround unless they physicals were done beforehand. I expect good things from Jordan tonight.
Dark Horses:
Jonas Valanciunas ($5,600): Valanciunas has 134.75 DraftKings points over the last three games combined. He is putting up big numbers lately. Whenever Valanciunas has done this in the past it has evaporated quickly. He also struggled in the first game against Minnesota. That puts ample risk on the potential value here.
Ed Davis ($4,400): Davis has been outstanding lately, putting up at least 6x value in four straight games. Portland is finally giving him run, and Davis is showing that he has plenty left in the tank. I can’t believe that Davis is still this cheap after what he did to Dallas. There is enormous potential here.
Jahlil Okafor ($3,000): This is what we were waiting for. Okafor racked up 30.5 DraftKings points in just 24 minutes against Minnesota. There is still run to be had with Rondae Hollis-Jefferson out. I think the Nets may finally do what they should have done a month ago: hand this over to Jahlil. He could be a huge bargain tonight if you are willing to take the risk.
My pick: Okafor(C), Jordan(UTIL); Jokic(C), Davis(F)
