Liverpool beat Huddersfield 3-0 at John Smith’s Stadium on Tuesday, Jan. 30. Here are all the highlights from the match.

Liverpool’s losing streak ended at two on Tuesday, as Jurgen Klopp’s men defeated a poor Huddersfield team with ease, cruising in the second half after goals from Emre Can and Roberto Firmino in the first.

The Reds were hardly inspiring in the opening exchanges despite dominating possession, aware perhaps of their recent disappointments against two of the Premier League’s other relegation battlers, Swansea and West Brom.

Firmino had the first shot of note in only the third minute but the Reds had little to show for their dominance otherwise, and almost fell behind in the 17th minute, Laurent Depoitre hitting the ball too close to Loris Karius when well placed in the middle of the box.

Can’s goal, which took a deflection on its way into the bottom corner, was somewhat fortunate, but the Terriers paid the price for an extremely defensive game plan that had them pegged back deep in their half for most of the contest.

Liverpool continued to dominate the ball, but chances remained hard to come by until the stroke of halftime, when Firmino, played into space by Sadio Mane down the left, tucked the ball past Jonas Lossl with a clever finish at the near post.

The second half was more of the same, as David Wagner’s side seemed reluctant to commit the numbers forward in attack necessary to trouble Liverpool. They were slightly more ambitious, but not nearly enough to get back into the match.

The result was put to bed in the 78th minute by Mohamed Salah, who scored from the spot after Can was pulled to the ground by Philip Billing in the 18-yard box. It was a soft penalty to give away from Huddersfield’s perspective, but the right decision.

Highlights

Liverpool remain fourth, but pulled level on points with Chelsea, who play Bournemouth on Wednesday. Huddersfield, meanwhile, stay 14th, but could drop into 17th place depending on other midweek results.
