Kansas City Chiefs: Will win AFC West, lose at home in first playoff game

Write this down. Yes, it will happen again. Poor Kansas City Chiefs fans, I’m so sorry. But this is what you signed up for with Andy Reid as your head coach. The Chiefs will look very impressive during the 2018 NFL season. It doesn’t matter if not Alex Smith, Patrick Mahomes II or Andy Reid himself is playing quarterback next fall. The Chiefs are going 12-4 and winning the AFC West for a third straight year.

After the Evil Empire over in Foxborough, the Chiefs will wind up being the No. 2 or No. 3 seed in the AFC playoff picture, depending on how the Pittsburgh Steelers do next fall. Kansas City might go 7-1, maybe even 8-0 at home during the regular season. Then it happens again…

It doesn’t which former member of the AFC Central that comes to Arrowhead Stadium in January. The Chiefs are going to lose their lone home playoff game of the 2018 season. Kansas City can blame it on Mahomes not throwing for a touchdown, Reid’s inability to read a clock or the increasingly porous Bob Sutton defense. Regardless, the Chiefs won’t make it to the AFC Championship for yet another season.

Though the result will be the same, the Chiefs could have the greatest regular season of all time, reminiscent to all those years Peyton Manning dominated the AFC South in Indianapolis. Kareem Hunt could rush for 2,000 yards. Travis Kelce could lead the league in touchdown receptions. Mahomes could win NFL MVP. Those will be cool, but they won’t amount to a playoff victory at home in Arrowhead yet again.
