Just because he was the former No. 1 overall pick and made it to the Pro Bowl this year as an alternate does not mean it is time for Los Angeles Rams head coach Sean McVay to fully unleash franchise quarterback Jared Goff. He is about a year away from being truly proficient upstairs from running this offense.

Don’t kid yourself. Goff has come a long way from running that elementary Jeff Fisher middle school offense. Only two years ago, Goff didn’t know where the sun went and just look at him now. He’s an All-Star, better yet a Pro Bowler! However, McVay will make one costly mistake that could cost the Rams the division.

There will be a game where McVay will unchain Goff and let him diagnose stuff at the line by himself. It will end up being the worst game Goff has had since he was a rookie, as he gets picked off four times by a division rival at home. It will be The Story the next week in sports talk radio. Turns out, not telling Goff what to do at the line of scrimmage is a bad idea in 2018.

They say your brain doesn’t fully develop until you turn 24. Goff is about to be a football genius in this McVay offense, just wait. But don’t take the quarterback cake out of the oven too early. It’ll be like taking the training wheels off a four-year-old’s bike. Ambitious, but maybe it’s a better time next year, as junior goes head over heels over the handlebars. The no good, very bad Goff game is coming and it is going to stink.
