After a torrid start to Sam Allardyce’s Everton career, they have been in a free fall for the last few weeks. Their last win came on Dec. 18 against Swansea, and have only scored twice in then. The Toffees have had to face some top tier opposition like Chelsea, Manchester United and Tottenham, but just took two points off of West Brom twice and Bournemouth. Everton bought Cenk Tosun, a highly-rated striker from Besiktas, to attempt to quell their goal problem, but the system they play is more of the problem. Their lack of scoring opportunities, let alone goals, have been at an all-time low.
Leicester, on the other hand, have been shooting up the Premier League table since Claude Puel took over. The Foxes are now in seventh place, topping Burnley for the first time this season. They’ve won two of their past three in the league, including an away draw to Chelsea. Leicester will be looking to do the double over Everton this season, as they were 2-0 winners over the Toffees in October at home. Leicester have been in good form overall in the past few weeks, and Riyad Mahrez in particular has shown a resurgence.
