After five years, Justin Timberlake’s fifth album, Man of the Woods, is out on iTunes. After the rough start of ‘Filthy’, how will go over with fans?

If you rewind back to 2013, you will remember a completely different Justin Timberlake. His album The 20/20 Experience, featured hits including “Take Back What I Want” and guest singers including Drake and Jay Z. Now in 2018, it looks he is trying a new style on for size. Justin Timberlake is no longer just the pop wonder that we’ve known him to be since his *NSYNC days. He’s bringing us all to a new chapter with Man of the Woods.

However, his new chapter hasn’t started so well. The release of the first single on Man of the Woods was not received well by a large portion of Timberlake’s fans. Despite the fact the song was supposed to remind us his 20/20 days, fans didn’t seem to take to it. #Filthy began trending almost as soon as the song dropped, but unfortunately started being used as an adjective rather than the title.

What could this say about the rest of the album? While JT was still a bachelor in his 20/20 days, he’s openly said that this album is about his roots and where he’s from. We expect to see that in his collaborations with Chris Stapleton, and apparent use of fiddle and harmonica. The ballad with Alicia Keys also shows growth in the music that Timberlake is giving us.

And this isn’t the only sign of his growth. Justin Timberlake will also be performing at the Super Bowl halftime show. He’s likely to do the show alone, unlike his 2004 performance with Janet Jackson. He’s set to only be with The Tennessee Kids, his band. He did admit to likely singing ‘Can’t Stop the Feeling’, a classic JT song.
