NFL Rumors: Kirk Cousins has Minnesota Vikings at top of his wish list?

While all eyes are on the Super Bowl, the fate of Kirk Cousins has managed to steal a few headlines from the big game.

The Washington Redskins made their decision on impending free agent quarterback Kirk Cousins earlier this week. Washington sent the Kansas City Chiefs a third round pick and corner Kyle Fuller in exchange for quarterback Alex Smith. That sealed Cousins fate and will make him a free agent when the league year starts in March.

Rumors have swirled about potential landing spots including the New York Jets, Denver Broncos and Minnesota Vikings among others. According to Aj Mansour of KFAN, a member of the KFAN radio team received a text message from what is described as a very credible source. The station was talking with former Washington Post writer and current Bleacher Report writer  Master Tesfatsion about how Cousins could fit in the Vikings plans.

"“Listening to you, I’m told Cousins has been telling people this week the Vikings are #1 with a bullet on his preference list. If offers are similar he’s taking the Vikings.”"

Minnesota is in the rare, and possibly unheard of spot, where they had three legitimate starting quarterbacks on the roster a season ago. Sam Bradford filled in for injured Teddy Bridgewater but went down with an injury himself. As a result, Case Keenum came in to replace Bradford and put up an almost MVP performance for the team on their way to the NFC Championship.

All three of those players are free agents. The Vikings could opt to let all three walk and bring in Cousins. Of the four options, he has the most long-term success. Bradford and Bridgewater carry injury risks. On the other hand, the decision with Keenum comes down to if they believe this year was an aberration or who he truly is as a quarterback.

Cousins could come right in and make the Vikings Super Bowl favorites in the NFC. With the devastating defense and elite tandem of receivers, Cousins would be surrounded by a fantastic supporting cast. The team would also get back stellar rookie running back Dalvin Cook after an injury ended his season.

This makes sense if you listen to what Cousins has discussed about his looming free agency. While money is important, he would like to play for a winner. The Vikings were a game away from the Super Bowl only a few weeks ago.
