Tom Brady, Todd Gurley and J.J. Watt stole the show at the NFL Honors where they walked away with some new hardware to add to their trophy case.

On the eve of the Super Bowl, where the NFL will crown either the New England Patriots or the Philadelphia Eagles, several players were honored at the NFL Honors award show and ceremony on Saturday night.

The big winner of the night was Tom Brady who walked away with the NFL MVP for the third time in his career. The 40-year-old quarterback defied the odds this year to have one of his best seasons and considering his age, this may be more impressive than his MVP in 2007 or 2010.

While Brady won the MVP, he didn’t win the NFL Offensive Player of the Year which went to Los Angeles Rams running back Todd Gurley who helped guide the young Rams to the NFC West division title and a return to the playoffs. In fact, it was a big night for the Rams who also saw Aaron Donald win the NFL Defensive Player of the Year and head coach Sean McVay win the Coach of the Year. McVay turned 32 only 10 days ago so this is a pretty nice belated birthday gift.

New Orleans Saints running back Alvin Kamara and cornerback Marshon Lattimore gave the team the rookies of the year on both offense and defense. A rare feat likely not to be repeated for some time.

Three-time NFL Defensive Player of the Year, J.J. Watt was not in the running this year after missing the bulk of the season due to injury, but the Houston Texans defensive end still walked a winner as the NFL’s Man of the Year. This is an award that I’m sure Watt puts above his three DPOY awards. His work with the relief effort after Hurricane Harvey ravaged Houston and the surrounding areas raised more than $37 million. An incredible effort and richly deserved honor for the future Hall of Famer.
