Brooklyn Nets center Tyler Zeller to the Milwaukee Bucks in exchange for guard Rashad Vaughn and a protected second-round pick.

Tyler Zeller will be joining his fourth NBA team. ESPN reporter Adrian Wojnarowski broke the news that Brooklyn Nets center Tyler Zeller has been sent to the Milwaukee Bucks in exchange for guard Rashad Vaughn and a protected second-round pick.

Milwaukee’s 2018 second-round pick that is headed to the Nets is protected between spots 31 and 47. Milwaukee will send an unprotected second in 2020 if the pick doesn’t change hands this year.

The major key to this trade is the second-round pick for the Nets. This trade helps accomplish Brooklyn’s goal of getting younger and obtaining future assets. For a team that is so far away from contention, their only hopes of improving will be through the draft and trying to revive young players careers such as D’Angelo Russell and Jahlil Okafor.

Guard Rashad Vaughn is being used as a player to match salaries and is a throw-in for the trade to work financially.

The addition of Tyler Zeller to the Bucks will help bolster a weak frontcourt. Zeller will join Thon Maker and Marshall Plumlee as the only centers on the team. Zeller is by no means a star player, but he is a solid backup center that provides a team with rebounds. His currently is putting up 7.1 points, 4.6 rebounds and shooting 54.6 percent from the field in only 16.7 mpg.

Milwaukke currently sits at 29-23 and is the fifth seed in the Eastern Conference. The Bucks are nine games out from the first place Boston Celtics and have been recently stuck by the injury bug. Giannis Antetokounmpo and Matthew Dellavedova were hurt in their last game. Thankfully for them, they just got back Jabari Parker, who has been out all season recovering from an ACL tear.

Tyler Zeller isn’t a big name player, but he is a quality veteran who will add some much needed help to a injury plagued Bucks team.
