There was a time early in the 2018 recruiting cycle in which Miami had the No. 1 overall class. However, as more top prospects committed elsewhere, and player rankings evolved, the Hurricanes slid into the No. 5 spot.
Of course, Miami is currently winning the ACC recruiting crown, beating a recent national champion and growing recruiting behemoth in Clemson, as well as Florida State, which has consistently recruited among the best programs in the country. Also, the rise into the national top five is important. Miami hasn’t finished in the top five of the national recruiting rankings since the program booked the No. 1 class in the country in 2008.
A total of 19 players signed with Mark Richt and the Hurricanes during the early signing period and 10 of those prospects enrolled early and are already on campus. Running back Lorenzo Lingard, a five-star prospect and the No. 2 player at his position, is the highest ranked player at No. 25 overall. It wouldn’t be a surprise to see Lingard factor heavy into the Canes’ offensive plans as a true freshman.
Quarterback Jarren Williams, tight end Brevin Jordan, receiver Mark Pope and cornerback Al Blades, Jr. also rank among the top 100 in the 247Sports Composite, while five others rank in the top 200.
Nesta Silvera, a four-star defensive tackle ranked No. 54 overall and second among interior defensive lineman, is one of three players committed to the Hurricanes who have not signed. Jordan Miller and Nigel Bethel, a pair of three-star talents, committed in January and are likely to put pen to paper, but there is concern Silvera, a Ft. Lauderdale native could flip to Tennessee or Florida.
