We have the 2018 Winter Olympics Opening Ceremony start time at Pyeongchang Olympic Stadium on NBC.
The 2018 Winter Olympics Opening Ceremony is scheduled for February 9 and starts at 20:00 Korean Standard Time. Though that translates to 6:00 a.m. Eastern Time, the Opening Ceremony will air at the more comfortable hour of 8:00 p.m. ET for primetime TV viewers on NBC. The duration of the program will be from 8:00 – 11:00 p.m. ET. The Opening Ceremony will feature NBC’s Katie Couric and Mike Tirico hosting the festivities from Pyeongchang Olympic Stadium, which was built specifically for this year’s games.
Interesting note: No events outside of the Opening and Closing Ceremonies will be held at Pyeongchang Olympic Stadium, which seats 35,000.
Those looking to catch the Opening Ceremony live online can do so over at NBCOlympics.com and the free NBC Sports app for mobile phone users. According to PyeongChang2018.com, augmented reality and 5G technology will be used in some kind of fashion for the Opening Ceremony.
"The Ceremony message will centre on peace, with five children from rural Gangwon province leading the fairytale adventure, and will include animals, nature and a cast of 2,000. Augmented Reality and 5G technology will be incorporated but the primary focus is on the people."

Team USA has announced that they’re sending 242 athletes to the 2018 Winter Olympics, the largest athlete delegation for any one nation in the entire history of the winter games. The 242 athletes include 107 women and 135 men, with 97 of a total 102 medal events competed for in South Korea. 103 of the 242 are returning Olympians with 37 Olympic Medalists and 10 Olympic Champions. Team USA will represent the United States in all 15 disciplines across seven sports.
Team USA currently has 96 gold medals and looking at finally breaking the coveted 100 number and 300th overall (current number is 284 medals). 16 Olympians on Team USA’s roster have previously competed at the Winter Youth Olympic Games, ten in 2012 and six in 2016.
"The Closing Ceremony on Feb. 25 will tell the story of The Next Wave and will focus on the human spirit of perseverance. The program, which will incorporate music, dance and art, will be somewhat interactive, allowing spectators to both get involved and stay warm."
The Closing Ceremony of the Winter Olympics will take place on February 25, 2018 at 20:00 hrs KST, 8:00 p.m. ET on NBC.
