26. player. 109. . RW. Carolina Hurricanes. Lee Stempiank

Despite some promise, the Carolina Hurricanes probably are not making the playoffs this season. They’ve been competitive thus far, but it feels like they’re a year a way from making a real run at things.
That means they should be trying to sell off any veterans who might be able to help a contender.

Lee Stempniak has missed most of the season with an upper body injury, but he’s been strong since returning. He’s had 40 points in each of his last two seasons. He’s a well traveled veteran who can contribute to a playoff team looking for some leadership.

The Hurricanes would unlikely get much in return for Stempniak, but anything is better than losing him for nothing in the offseason. At 34-years-old, Stempniak’s career is winding down. He’s unlikely to stay in Carolina, unless he really believes the Hurricanes can make a run at things next year.

Having played just 28 playoff games in his 12 year career, Stempniak probably wants a run or two at the Cup before hanging it up.
Justin Williams is a player who would fetch a bigger return. Teams probably would not be scared off by the extra year as Williams continues to be a productive player at his edge. His playoff success speaks for itself. But the Hurricanes brought in Williams during this two year window to help them back into the playoffs and it’s doubtful that they’d be willing to move him less than a year into the contract.
