The Ohio State football program will look to build off another strong year by adding top-tier recruits to the 2018 team.
The Ohio State football program remains among the best in the nation. It barely missed the recent College Football Playoff, potentially due to a blowout loss vs. Iowa, but a Big Ten Conference Championship can still be seen as an accomplishment.
Head coach Urban Meyer and company will attempt to build off on this in the 2018 season. This includes no longer having J.T. Barrett, who graduated from the program, at quarterback. It starts with recruiting high school players from the class of 2018, which culminates on Feb. 7 with National Signing Day.
As of Feb. 7, the Buckeyes have the No. 1 recruiting class in the nation, according to 247Sports.com. With the potential to add more recruits on National Signing Day, Meyer will try to stabilize this class as the best in the nation. Let’s look at who he has so far and the others that may be added:
Ohio State has two five-star recruits to anchor this class: defensive tackle Taron Vincent and safety Tyreke Johnson. These two will join a defense just 300.9 yards per game — the ninth-lowest mark in the 2017 college football season. If given the opportunity at playing time, look to hear these names plenty in the fall.
Along with Vincent and Johnson, there are 19 four-star recruits set to join the program. That’s before National Signing Day even finishes, which is incredible. Plenty of these players sit in the trenches of the offensive and defensive lines, perhaps the most talented and focused-on parts of the Big Ten; Tommy Togiai, Mathew Jones, Max Wray and Antwuan Jackson Jr. are among these players.
It’s easy to already love Ohio State’s recruiting class. Unless something drastic happens on National Signing Day, look for them to keep the top spot in the nation.
