After being dealt to the Jazz in one of the big trades the Cavaliers made today, point guard Derrick Rose will be waived by the Utah Jazz.
The Cleveland Cavaliers made three trades today, one of them was a three-team deal involving the Jazz and the Kings. One of the players leaving the Cavs in that mega trade was point guard Derrick Rose who was moved to the Jazz.
Utah will also send Joe Johnson to Sacramento, and Cleveland will send Jae Crowder and Derek Rose to Utah, league sources tell ESPN. Sacramento sends George Hill to the Cavs.

Shortly after the trade was reported by Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN, Shams Charania of the Vertical reported that the Jazz plan on waving Rose.
Sources: Utah will release Derrick Rose, allowing him to pursue signing with a playoff team. https://t.co/a9RsM4kgTW

Upon first glance, some may wonder if their are any playoff teams interested in Rose after the poor performance he’s had with the Cavs this season and all the off-the-court drama he’s caused in his past two seasons with the Knicks and Cavs respectively. Basically, who would be interested in a below-average point guard who has grown fond of disappearing randomly in the middle of the season?
According to Marc Stein of the New York Times, his former head coach Tom Thibodeau who now coaches the Minnesota Timberwolves is interested.
The Timberwolves will try to sign Derrick Rose if he clears waivers after his looming release by Utah, according to league sources

Once Rose is officially released by the Jazz he will go on the waiver wire for 48-hours. If no one claims him in those 48-hours, he will be free to sign with any team at any price. The Timberwolves will probably offer him the minimum if all goes according to plan to backup Jeff Teague.

Rose, who as mentioned would be uniting with his old head coach, would also be uniting with former Bulls teammates Jimmy Butler and Taj Gibson. It’s been a rough go for Rose since leaving Chicago but this would seem to be as good a situation as any for him to figure out how to be useful again.
Thibodeau, is getting the gang back together.
