The 2018 Winter Olympics kick off early with figure skating. Here’s what you need to know to watch the pairs’ short program team event online.
Get the kiss and cry ready because figure skating is here and we’re kicking things off with the men and pairs short programs for the team event on Feb. 8. The timing is a little confusing because this is the day before the Opening Ceremony, but a few sports start early in order to finish competition on time. In this primetime event, broadcast live on NBC, the men’s and pairs’ short programs get underway.
Here is the synopsis of the February 8 figure skating event:
"Figure skating’s team competition begins with the pairs’ short programs. Top contenders include the United States, the athletes representing OAR (Olympic Athlete(s) from Russia) and Canada."
This will be your first chance to see Team USA in action as the pairs figure skating team takes the ice. Representing the pairs team for Team USA are husband and wife duo Alexa Scimeca Knierim and Chris Knierim. Team USA only has one team competing in the pairs event, so all eyes are on this talented duo as they work to bring home the gold for the United States.

The pairs figure skating medal ceremony for the individual competition takes place Feb. 15, so there is no room for error even though the competition kicks off earlier than the other sports. The pressure is on Team USA but these Olympic athletes know full well how to deal with pressure.
