The Winter Olympics opening ceremony is one of the flashiest events of the weekend, but who will be the flag bearer for Team USA?

Now that the Winter Olympics have are here, it’s time to dive deep into the Opening Ceremony. No one wins a medal and you have to get up at 4 am ET to try and soak it all in, but this sort of thing only comes once every four years so who are we to sit here and pretend like it’s not a big deal.

South Korea has robots buzzing around willing to give you the weather report and also be your best friend; they came to party.

That’s what we’re hoping the Opening Ceremony will be, as it will help set the tone for the rest of the games. A question we always have, however, is who will be representing the country by leading the Team USA pack while holding the flag.

Erin Hamlin has been given the honor of being flag bearer for Team USA.

"“Being named to an Olympic Team is an amazing accomplishment, and making four teams and winning the bronze medal is so much more than I could I have imagined I would accomplish. Now being voted flag bearer is a whole new level,” said Hamlin. “Working hard and earning success is one thing, being acknowledged as a great representative and member of Team USA by fellow athletes – many who I have been inspired by – is above and beyond anything I’ve experienced. It is definitely a privilege and honor to be the one to lead the team and will be a very special moment. I can’t wait to share it with them all!”"

She’ll be going for gold in the Women’s Luge competition, which would best her bronze medal earned at the Sochi Games four years ago. In winning bronze at the Sochi Games, Hamlin broke a 34-year slump for American Luge, which saw the sport dominated by German and Austrian athletes.

Hamlin will be leading Team USA on Thursday night in South Korea at the opening ceremony. You can catch the action on NBC Friday morning at about 4 am ET.
