The first snowboarding event of the 2018 Winter Olympics will kick off Friday night with the men’s slopestyle snowboarding qualification round.

The qualifying runs for the men’s slopestyle Olympic snowboarding discipline will kick off on Saturday, Feb. 10, Korea Time. For those of us in the Western Hemisphere, however, the event will be broadcast on Friday night.

If you’re a night owl, you can catch these events live, but unless you live near South Korea, you’ll be staying up late Friday night to do so.

All the information you need to watch the men’s slopestyle qualifiers is below, as well as a preview of the athletes who will hope to advance to the final round on Feb. 10.

The entire Olympic snowboarding schedule can be found here.

How to Watch:

TV: NBC, NBCSN

Live Stream: NBCOlympics.com

App: NBC Sports

Date: Friday, Feb. 9

Start Time: 8:00 p.m. ET

What to Watch:

The qualifying round for men’s slopestyle features two runs, and riders are divided into two heats in each run. Thus, there are four events to watch:

  • Men’s Slopestyle Qualification Heat 1 Run 1 (8:00 p.m. ET)
  • Men’s Slopestyle Qualification Heat 1 Run 2 (8:47 p.m. ET)
  • Men’s Slopestyle Qualification Heat 2 Run 1 (11:00 p.m. ET)
  • Men’s Slopestyle Qualification Heat 2 Run 2 (11:47 p.m. ET)

The top four riders from each heat in the qualification round, or 16 total, will advance after their scores from both runs are combined for the final result.

Canada has a strong men’s snowboarding team this year, and could send two riders to the podium: Max Parrot and Mark McMorris. McMorris earned a bronze medal in the 2014 Sochi Games, which featured the first slopestyle event in Olympic history.

American Sage Kostenburg won gold in the men’s slopestyle event in 2014, but he won’t be competing in the 2018 Winter Games. Team USA could still earn a spot on the podium, however, if 17-year-old phenom Red Gerrard performs as well as expected.
