Winter Olympics skiing action kicks off with the women’s Skiathlon, an event you won’t want to miss.
Cross-Country Skiing is a staple event of the Winter Olympics, something that is as time-honored as ordering a hot dog at a baseball game. You simply cannot have the winter games without having the image of skiers flying into your mind — or in the case of the Skiathlon flying through the course.
Skiathlon is the name of the game, an event that puts an athlete through a low-grade obstacle course. It’s an event that you may be sleeping on but one that needs to be experienced to get the full Winter Olympics effect.
It’s the first skiing event of the games, kicking off a sport that will later include Ski Jump, Freeski, and Nordic Combined, just to name a few. Even the event name — Skiathlon — sounds cool. Watching the event and then talking about it at work the next day using the terminology will only make you sound cooler than you already are.
