Here’s a look at the full 2018 Olympic women’s hockey bracket.

Women’s hockey is primed to steal the show at the 2018 Winter Olympics. Olympic women’s hockey should be in the spotlight for a variety of reasons. Men’s hockey won’t feature the best players in the world, as the NHL won’t be sending their players. So if fans want to see the best of the best go against each other, the ladies provide that opportunity.

Canada has won the past four gold medals (2002, 2006, 2010, 2014). The United States is the only other country to win a gold medal in women’s hockey (1998). However, America has won the past three gold medals at the IIHF World Championships (2015, 2016, 2017), so this could be the year they break through. They’re also the top-ranked team as the Olympics begin.

There will be eight women’s teams at the 2018 Winter Olympics. They will be separated into two groups. Let’s take a look at them.

Group A: United States, Canada, Finland, Olympic Athletes From Russia

Group B: Sweden, Switzerland, Japan, Korea (unified)

The top four ranked teams in the tournament will all be in Group A. This is because the Olympics wants to generate more interest and perhaps create some parity. For so long, Canada and the United States destroyed other teams. It wasn’t fair and it wasn’t fun to watch.

After the group stage, each of the teams advances. The top two teams from Group A earn byes to the semifinals. Meanwhile, the third-place team in the first group will play the second-place team from Group B. Also, Group A’s fourth-place team will face Group B’s first-place team. The third-place and fourth-place teams from Group B go to the fifth-place bracket.

Women’s hockey will get underway on Saturday, Feb. 10. Follow along here on FanSided as we’ll have final scores and recaps for you.
