Report: Brewers offer Yu Darvish 9 figures
By Zach Houle
Yu Darvish is still on the market, and the Milwaukee Brewers have offered a nine-figure deal for him.
Yu Darvish is one of the most coveted arms in the free agent market. The Milwaukee Brewers have made two big splashes already this offseason with Lorenzo Cain and Christian Yelich. They were a surprise team last year, as the club won 86 games. The Brewers seem committed to the players and have supplemented them with controllable talent. With that said, this team still needs an ace atop the mound. In order for the club to reach the next level, a clear no. 1 pitcher is key for their success in the postseason.
Robert Murray reported that the Brewers are one of the teams with a nine-figure offer recently. Jon Heyman gave his insight about the subject as well.
"There is reason to believe that Darvish might prefer the Rangers, (a long shot), Dodgers (a bigger long shot) or Cubs, so Milwaukee may have to go the extra mile in this case, especially if Darvish factors comfort into the equation."
In 2017, Darvish tossed a 3.86 ERA in 186.2 innings. He is a workhorse with a wipeout arsenal. His fastball command is key towards his ace ceiling, and his breaking pitches are some of the best in the league. With that said, the Japanese righty is a hot commodity. But the shortage of suitors in this year’s market is what has slowed his signing.

The Brewers have also reached out to guys like Lance Lynn, Jake Arrieta, and Alex Cobb. Milwaukee could make another splash in the baseball world this offseason. The team is inclined to add players to their already promising core. Darvish seems to want to choose between the Yankees or Dodgers, but they both have too much money on books as it is. The clubs would need to trade off their lucrative contracts.
