Will Emmanuel Mudiay finally reach his potential in New York?
The Knicks found a solution at point guard without giving up much of anything. Emmanuel Mudiay, you know…..the guy who ditched SMU to play in China, is heading to the Big Apple. Mudiay started 107 games in his three years in Denver, but none this season. Here are the deals that took him East:
Here is the completed piece of the deal:
The Nuggets viewed Mudiay as a franchise player, taking him 7th overall in the 2015 draft. His best season was as a rookie when Mudiay posted 12.8 points and 5.5 assists per game. His numbers, and starts, dipped last year. This year Mudiay only averaged 17.9 minutes in 42 games off the bench.
This is a pretty good landing spot for the 21 year old Mudiay. It’s safe to say that the Knicks are hoping for a Mudiay-Ntilikina led backcourt sometime in the near future. This was a low-risk proposition for the Knicks.

As for the fantasy impact, Mudiay should play enough to have some value in most leagues. If he starts, there is a chance that he will be relevant even in standard leagues. Mike Malone’s rotations are puzzling at best. This change of scenery could be just what Mudiay needs.
If he is available in your league, I would pick him up if you have the bench slot. It will take a few games to see how Mudiay fits in, and he likely wont start for at least a week, but there is opportunity here for him. He was passed by in Denver by Jamal Murray.
Devin Harris will likely have a reduced role with all of the guards in Denver. Of course, Dallas was pretty guard heavy as well. The veteran’s ability to play both guard slots will help him still get around 20 minutes per game. If you were using Harris for steals and some points, you likely wont notice much of a difference.
The acquisition of McDermott makes a lot of sense for Dallas. McDermott is mostly a shooter, but Dallas needed a better perimeter shooter off the bench than Harris. McDermott provides that, and the ability to do it from the three or the four. He should get more run with Dallas than he did with New York, so if you need a shooter in deeper leagues, McDermott should help you out.
