Southampton got a vital win in their relegation battle with West Brom last weekend. Liverpool will provide a far sterner test. Mohamed Salah continued his fabulous debut campaign with two goals against Tottenham last time out. The whole Southampton team have only scored seven more league goals than Salah has in 2017-18.

The Saints had gone 12 league games without a win before last weekend. Their home form does not inspire confidence that they will win this match. They have only won three league matches on their own patch this season, and only one team in the Premier League has won fewer.

Even so, Southampton are unbeaten in their last four league matches, so they have perhaps turned the corner in their quest for Premier League survival.

Liverpool recently lost at lowly Swansea, but overall they have done well on the road in 2017-18. The Reds have won seven times, and are the division’s top scorers in away matches. Jürgen Klopp may choose to rest some of his star players ahead of Liverpool’s Champions League match with Porto next week, but it will still be a strong side.
