Does even the Fastest Man Alive have to stop his adventures for the 2018 Winter Olympics?
Season 4 of The Flash has arguably been its most fun set of episodes since the first season. While there’s a very dangerous big bad in the form of the Thinker, Clifford DeVoe, who has pulled out a few surprising tricks while staying a step or two ahead of our heroes at all times, the writers have infused the show with more comedy and a lighter tone that even managed to shine through during the most serious of arcs.
One of those saw Barry Allen go to jail for a murder he didn’t commit, echoing the fate of his father, Henry Allen. Luckily, The Flash didn’t dwell on that for too long, as Barry was freed on a technicality thanks to some clever use of the powers of the Elongated Man — and Ralph Dibny has had plenty of strong character moments this season as well.

Alas, we won’t get to see the next development in this season’s ongoing storyline this week, as there is no new episode on Tuesday, February 13. Part of that might be due to the ongoing 2018 Winter Olympics on NBC, which makes other networks reluctant to push out new episodes of their own shows. However, The CW is pressing on with new installments of Legends of Tomorrow and Black Lightning, so it’s possible this break for Team Flash would have fallen around this time anyway.

The Flash is also off next week before returning for episode 14 of season 4, “Subject 9,” on Feb. 27. We’re also only a few weeks away from another appearance by Kevin Smith behind the camera, as he directed this season’s 17th episode.
The biggest cliffhanger that promises to run (no pun intended) through the next few episodes centers on Barry’s realization that the Thinker has very specifically been targeting the so-called bus metas, the group of people who gained their powers when Barry was rescued from the Speed Force. Ralph is among that group, which means DeVoe almost certainly has him factored into the overall scheme, whatever it might be. We also saw DeVoe drug his own wife with the tears of the Weeper last week, meaning he knows she is having second thoughts about assisting him.
