Team USA made a huge statement in Olympics women’s hockey, blowing out the Olympic Athletes of Russia 5-0

So far in this tournament, Team USA’s Olympics women’s hockey team has proven to be worth the hype. They came into South Korea as the top-ranked team in the world according to the IIHF. Everything they have done there suggests this was justified. Especially after another dominant performance on Tuesday, Feb. 13, one that saw Team USA stomp the Olympic Athletes of Russia 5-0.

America got off to a slow start against Finland, but avoided it this time around. Kacey Bellamy scored just over eight minutes into the game to make it 1-0 USA. Jocelyne Lamoureux-Davidson and Gigi Marvin picked up the assists on the goal.

Much like their game against Finland, Team USA got their scoring done in the second period. After scoring two second period goals in their first game, the ladies scored three goals in the second period. Lamoureux-Davidson scored two goals in just six seconds, which sets a new Olympic record for the fastest two goals scored.

Later in the second period, Marvin put in a goal of her own to make it 4-0 Team USA. Following this goal, Valeria Taraknova’s day was mercifully put to an end, as she was pulled. She stopped 23 of the 27 shots she faced in 34:38 of playing time. Hannah Brandt completed the scoring for Team USA, scoring a third-period goal with just under two minutes remaining.
