Steve Kerr might allow Golden State Warriors players to draw up plays, but don’t expect Cleveland Cavaliers head coach Ty Lue to do the same anytime soon.
The Cleveland Cavaliers faced off against the Oklahoma City Thunder Tuesday, but much of the pregame discussion was centered around Golden State Warriors coach Steve Kerr allowing his players to coach the team.
Warriors players Draymond Green, Andre Iguodala and David West took turns coaching the team and drawing up plays in the huddle during a 46-point blowout win over the Phoenix Suns Monday at Oracle Arena.
According to Oklahoma City Thunder beat reporter Royce Young, don’t expect Ty Lue to allow the Cavs to coach the team in the future.
Ty Lue on Steve Kerr letting the players coach last night: “I wouldn’t do that. They already say LeBron’s coaching the team anyway, so if I give him the clipboard they’re really gonna say that.”

Let’s be honest here . . . can you blame Lue? Lue deserves much praise for what he’s done so far in Cleveland— managing the chaos that ensued post-Kyrie, managing LeBron’s ego and let’s not forget, helping Cleveland win an NBA Championship.
LeBron James has been referred to for as long as anyone can remember as the general manager of the Cavaliers. While much of James’ input or implied input could be a figment of imagination from the media and nothing more than assumptions, allowing LeBron or any other Cav draw up plays would be detrimental for Lue’s coaching career.

During a time of fragility in Cleveland and the unknowns surrounding James’ future, it’s one thing if we suspect James runs everything in Cleveland and a whole different story if we see these things for ourselves instead of behind closed doors in the smallest of circles. The Cavs have things rolling after the complete overhaul of the roster at the trade deadline, and it’s safe to say that coach Lue and the front office would rather not be the butt of jokes across the league after momentarily fixing things for the better as All-Star weekend approaches and the Cavs look to build off the positives as they prepare for the second half of the season.
But then again, it would have been a sight to see.
