When Marvel’s Black Panther hits theaters, it will be available in multiple viewing formats. Will this include IMAX?
After months of hype, Marvel will finally release Black Panther worldwide on Friday, Feb. 16. It’s the first Marvel Cinematic Universe movie of 2018, with Avengers: Infinity War and Ant-Man and the Wasp set to follow before the year closes. It’s pretty clear that whatever happens in this movie will impact the rest of this cinematic world.
The attention around Black Panther started in the fall of 2017, when its first trailer aired on television and hit social media. This prepared moviegoers for the venture into Wakanda, the country spoken of in the MCU for the past few years.
To see Wakanda come to life, viewers will have multiple ways of doing this, including standard, 3D and Dolby. The other one? IMAX, mostly in 2D and not 3D, as noted by the IMAX website, depending on the theater you frequent.
IMAX viewing shows off the clear-cut visuals of the movie it presents. For Black Panther, IMAX viewings can crystalize the nooks and crannies of this fictional universe, from the buildings to the rooms and trees, providing everyone a fantastic look at what may be one of the best parts of the MCU.
IMAX is usually available for MCU movies, in general, given the big-budget production of these films and how grand they are made to be. Expect it to be the case for the rest of Marvel’s 2018 calendar and into the future.

Spectacular visuals or not, Black Panther will take over the box office starting on Friday. It’s prepped to be a blockbuster movie that opens T’Challa’s world and begins his reign as king of Wakanda. Along with this, there’s the introduction of characters like Erik Killmonger, Shuri, Nakia, Okoye and others, which will continue to bring this part of the MCU to life on the big screen.
