Black Panther: Who does Michael B. Jordan play?
By Ben Rosener
With Black Panther set to debut in theaters around the country, we have you covered with all the information you need leading up to the latest Marvel film, including more on Michael B. Jordan’s character.
Back in 2016, audiences were introduced to the character of T’Challa/Black Panther in Captain America: Civil War.
What’s more, Marvel has hinted at and briefly touched on T’Challa’s home country of Wakanda in films before.
However, February’s Black Panther will be our first look, in earnest, at the country.
With the first look at the country will come plenty of new characters. From Danai Gurira’s Okoye and Letitia Wright’s Shuri to Forest Whitaker’s Zuri, there will be a number of characters making their Marvel Cinematic Universe debuts.
Another character set to debut is Erik Killmonger, a nemesis of Black Panther.
Michael B. Jordan, who starred in director Ryan Coogler’s past two films, Creed and Fruitvale Station, will play the character.
In the comics, Erik Killmonger is a longtime enemy of T’Challa, having lost his father and mother in a conflict between T’Challa and Ulysses Klaw. Unsurprisingly, he doesn’t exactly have the highest opinion of the king of Wakanda.
Killmonger eventually moved to the United States and grew up there before returning to Wakanda to try and overthrow the ruling family, in part to avenge his father’s death.
A skilled fighter, he can go toe-to-toe with Black Panther.
It will certainly be interesting to see how Jordan portrays the character in the movie.
Black Panther will open in theaters around the United States of America on Feb. 16, 2018.
The film is directed by Ryan Coogler, who previously helmed both Creed and Fruitvale Station, and stars Chadwick Boseman as the titular character of T’Challa/Black Panther.
