Le’Veon Bell rumors: 5 best fits in NFL free agency
4. Cleveland Browns
The Browns have added credibility to their organization with the hiring of John Dorsey as general manager, and they will have plenty of cap space available to spend in free agency ($109.6 million as of right now, via Over The Cap.com). The ongoing question is centered on if any big-named free agents will take the money the Browns can offer, but they have the ability to bump up their contract offers in order to be competitive in the market.
A move for a veteran quarterback is possible, or the Browns could draft another signal caller with one of the two top-five overall picks they have in April’s draft. But a capable every-down back would be a benefit to whoever is under center, and pending free agent Isaiah Crowell has not proven to be up to the task.
If Bell hits the open market, Cleveland’s hiring of former Steelers’ offensive coordinator Todd Haley to the same position could lead to the Browns getting a longer look than expected. It’s hard to see that as a preemptive move to entice Bell in free agency, but it certainly can’t hurt to have added a coach Bell has familiarity and had success with.
