The 2018 Daytona 500 takes place on Sunday. How many laps will the race be?

The race that everyone has been waiting for is almost here. On Sunday, the 2018 Daytona 500 will take place, and the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series season will officially begin on the biggest stage of the season.

Very few sports offer their biggest event of the year right off the bat, but NASCAR always delivers with an exciting event. Legends have made their name by winning the Daytona 500, and this year, someone else may join those ranks.

The question is if it going to be a new winner or a repeat winner? Not only does the winner get to put their name in the record books, they also earn a spot in the NASCAR Playoffs and get the advantage of not having to worry about that for the rest of the season. Having a win in the fold makes the grueling stretch of the season a lot easier to deal with.

It’s a grueling 500-mile race that requires making a move at the right time or being left behind. With high speeds on the 2.5-mile track at Daytona International Speedway, the drivers will all race 200 laps to determine a winner unless overtime is needed in this event.

Alex Bowman will be on the pole for the event. Bowman is officially taking over the No. 88 car for Dale Earnhardt Jr. this year, and the Chevy Camaro ZL 1 has been impressive thus far. Will Bowman be able to make history and pick up a win at the Daytona 500?
