In this edition of the Kiss and Cry Chronicles it’s time to talk Valentine’s Day and The Hunger Games at the 2018 Winter Olympics.

May the ice be ever in your favor. Or something like that. Yes, we’re back for another edition of the Kiss and Cry Chronicles and even though this will be published on Valentine’s Day, the athletes in Pyeongchang celebrated Valentine’s Day while we watched at home on the 13th. (Because they’re in the future.) (Or we’re in the past.)

Love is in the air

The pairs’ short program kicked off the first half of the pairs’ competition and we can’t help but notice the love between Team USA’s Alexa Scimeca Knierim and Chris Knierim. They shared a big kiss after their skate, warming hearts everywhere with their affection for one another. Chris even gave Alexa a handmade Valentine when they finished skating.

However, when an NBC reporter asked the couple how they could ever top such a magical Valentine’s Day, Alexa caught her husband off guard when she said that only having a baby on Valentine’s Day could be better.

While the Knierims’ 65.55 was only good for a place 14 finish in a field of 22, it was good enough to help them advance to the free skate on Wednesday.

Hunger Games

Johnny Weir finally admitted that he receives his wardrobe inspiration from Hunger Games host Caesar Flickerman. Between the flashy wardrobe and signature pompadour, it’s hard to unsee the similarities once you notice them.

As for Weir, he’s glad people are finally putting it together because he has been making the comparisons for years now: “I think [the talk is] hilarious. Going into Sochi [in 2014] Caesar Flickerman was kind of my muse in preparing and getting ready. Except I can’t laugh like he did in the movie. Now people are finally getting it. Only took them four years.”

Weir’s figure skating co-host Tara Lipinski posted an image on Instagram making the comparison now that the secret is out and everyone is embracing it.
