When it comes to the Winter Olympics, Norway is always at or near the top of the medal standings. But that’s because it always cleans up in events like cross-country skiing and Nordic Combined. As for hockey, it has never won a medal, and that isn’t likely to change this year.
Sweden, by contrast, is one of the favorites in the men’s tournament, and was the last country not named Canada to win gold. Even without NHL players in the Olympics, Sweden has one of the stronger squads of the field, since it can draw players from its own league. It has a proven NHL goalie in Jhonas Enroth, the likely No. 1 pick this year in Rasmus Dahlin, and KHL standouts like Linus Omark and Anton Lander.
NBC has exclusive rights to broadcast the 2018 Winter Olympics, which it will air across its multiple channels: NBC, CNBC, NBCSN and USA. But all the cord-cutters out there — and everyone not waiting around for whatever TV schedule NBC has crafted — can live stream the games, including the men’s hockey tournament. If you don’t have an NBC cable log-in at your disposable, you can stream the NBC channels through a service like FuboTV.
This game takes place at 4:40 p.m. local time, which is 2:40 a.m. ET. You’re not likely to find many people in North America that will stay up to watch this game, save for the most hardcore hockey fans. Even in Norway and Sweden, this game requires an early wake-up, but they’ll likely commit to it to see their team’s first game in action.
