Watch as the field is set for the 2018 Daytona 500 in the Can-Am Duel races on Thursday night.

It’s time to fire up the engines again at Daytona International Speedway, and this time, all the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series drivers get to take part. The Clash at Daytona was just an appetizer, and the Can-Am Duel races are something like the salad before the Great American Race arrives as the main course on Sunday.

What’s interesting about the Duels this year is that the Daytona 500 entry list has only 40 cars on it. That means no one will be going home after either race in the Can-Am Duel, which almost always spell doom for someone making the big race.

That’s led to some thought that the twin 125-mile races on Thursday night may be tamer than usual, as there isn’t the same urgency involved for some of the lesser teams. Then again, with everyone in the Cup Series garage needing a dry run to get accustomed to new ride height rules and five-man pit stops, there should still be some sense of intrigue.
