DeMarcus Lawrence: 5 best fits in NFL free agency
By Joe Romano
Pass rusher is a premium position. The biggest free agent pass rusher is Dallas Cowboys’ DeMarcus Lawrence.
After being drafted in the second round by the Dallas Cowboys out of Boise State, DeMarcus Lawrence has cemented himself as one of the league’s best pass rushers. This past season, teh defensive end finished tied for second in the league in sacks with 14.5.
Lawrence’s career got off to a rocky start as he did not see the field much during his rookie season. The following season though he flashed the potential that the Cowboys saw when they drafted him 34th overall in the 2014 draft.
A season ago, during 2016, Lawrence battled injury and suspension. He only appeared in nine games, starting three. During the Cowboys’ best season of his career, Lawrence only managed a single sack.
This past season was Lawrence’s best. At times he was the lead leader in sacks, eventually losing the crown to the Arizona Cardinals’ Chandler Jones.
The Cowboys are excited to have Lawrence as pass rush was a big area of concern entering the season. This is a big reason Dallas spent a first round pick on edge rusher Taco Charlton out of Michigan in last year’s draft.
Charlton, like most edge players in their rookie season, struggled. He did grow into a solid player as the season went on and his future is still bright.
For Charlton to reach his potential it will be important to have fellow talented players along the defensive line with him. Lawrence is the perfect partner.
No player boost their price tag this season entering free agency more than Lawrence. At one of the NFL’s premier positions it is likely Lawrence will get a monster deal. Here are the five best landing spots for the 25-year-old pass rusher.
