The Big Boys will be out in force this week at the Genesis Open at the Riviera Country Club in Pacific Palisades, CA.

In the field this week for the Genesis Open: Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson, Rory McIlroy, Dustin Johnson, Bubba Watson, Jordan Spieth, Graeme McDowell, Adam Scott,  Matt Kuchar, Ernie Els, Jim Furyk,  you name it. Overall, there are 14 major winners in this week’s field.

Woods makes his second start of the PGA Tour season, but his 330th career overall. He hasn’t been back to this tournament in 12 years and historically has struggled at Riveria. Another factor to consider is the layout at Riveria. It tends to favor accurate shots from the tee with the driver, something that is considered a bit of a weakness in the early stages of Woods’ return to golf.

Dustin Johnson won in 2017 and is the hands down favorite to win this week. Phil Mickelson finished second last week at Pebble Beach and obviously could be considered a factor.

But of course, all eyes will be on Woods, who made the cut last time out at the Farmers Insurance Open. He’ll be facing a pretty stiff field and a challenging course, so making the cut would be an accomplishment, all things considered.

Rory McIlroy missed the cut last week at Pebble Beach, so a strong showing this week in Pacific Palisades would calm the fears of Rory nation.

Tiger Woods will tee off with McIlroy, and Justin Thomas first at 7:22 am PT on Thursday morning at the first tee and then at 12:02 p.m PT from the 10th tee on Friday.
