It’s time for the men to take the ice at the 2018 Winter Olympics. Here’s what you need to watch men’s short program figure skating on TV and online.
After winning bronze in the team figure skating event, the Team USA men are ready to come out strong in the 2018 Winter Olympics men’s figure skating event. The action begins with the men’s short program.
Viewers have already seen Team USA’s Nathan Chen and Adam Rippon after their performances in the team event. Chen’s short program was the first Olympics figure skating event, and it’s clear that nerves might have gotten the best of him after his less than stellar Olympics debut. Chen finished his skate in fourth place after falling on his quad attempt.
Adam Rippon made hs Olympics debut in the free skate, and he was absolutely brilliant, but his clean skate did not hold up to the more daring skates from Canada and Olympic Athletes from Russia.
The scoring system rewards complex jumps that are attempted more than less complicated jumps done flawlessly, so expect to see lots of difficult elements from both Chen and Rippon. Chen has been practicing his quad jumps so that he can redeem himself upon his return to the Olympics ice.
Team USA will face stiff competition in the men’s figure skating event from Canada’s Patrick Chan and Russia’s Mikhail Kolyada, but Chen and Rippon, along with Vincent Zhou, are hungry, and they’re not ready to go home without a fight.
