In the Olympics Snowboarding women’s cross race finals, Michela Mioli came away with a surprising win.

It’s been a long time coming for Lindsey Jacobellis. Despite being extremely dominant in Olympics snowboarding women’s cross, she hasn’t won a gold medal since 2006. That wait will have to continue, as Michela Mioli pulled away from the competition in the final race to win the gold medal.

In the semifinal race, there was a significant crash, which lessened the field. It also made things a lot easier for the top six racers, who wound up being Michela Mioli, Julia Pereira de Sousa Mabileau, Eva Samkova, Jacobellis, Chloe Trespeuch, and Alexandra Jekova.

For the 22-year-old Mioli, this is her first Olympic medal. The 2018 Winter Olympics are her second Olympics after she participated in the 2014 Olympics. Mabileau is astonishingly just a 16-year-old. She wins her first Olympics medal and nearly pulled off a huge upset to get the gold. However, a silver will have to suffice for her. But Mabileau clearly has a very bright future. She’s well known for her speed.

Samkova gets her second Olympics medal. However, she was unable to defend her gold medal at the 2014 Olympics. The 24-year-old is still one of snowboarding’s biggest stars and one of the best in the world at what she does.

This could be the swan song for Jacobellis. In a sport dominated by the young, she’s on the wrong side of 30. Jacobellis has overcome so much to get to the 2018 Olympics, so it’s a little sad to see her not walk away with a medal.
