There’s more cross-country skiing to be had at the Winter Olympics, with the Men’s 15km Free up next.
Free really plays into the free-for-all nature of the race, as it’s a cross country race of the masses. This isn’t an event where just a handful of skiers will be going at it, there are over three dozen athletes in this race.
Noah Hoffman is the American with the best chance at winning gold, finishing with the 14th-best qualifying time. Scott Patterson, Tyler Kornfield, and Erik Bjorsen also finished with Top-50 times but the work is cut out for Team USA to take home a medal. Right now Michal Novak from the Czech Republic is the favorite to win gold, but we won’t know what is in store until the opening gun sounds.
Typically, when it comes to the Nordic events, Americans have had a rough go of it. We’re much more of a downhill people, as demonstrated by the domination in the snowboarding events.
The Free is going to be an interesting battle, but there’s still an outside chance the Americans can take home a medal. If you need an underdog story, this is it.
