Team USA women’s rink has the best snacks in Olympic curling. Are they donut holes? Protein balls?

In the mid-game break of Wednesday evening’s women’s curling game between USA and Great Britain, between the fifth and sixth ends (which I guess you’d call half-time?), the cameras picked up both teams snacking on some refreshments while regrouping with their respective coaches. The British were enjoying what looked like fruit and maybe nuts. The Americans had what looked like donut holes, but are probably protein balls, because that would be healthier and make more sense.

According to coach Al Hackner, whose conversation the cameras pick up, the snacks are “the USA’s secret potion” and a “delicious morsel.” (Conversation also suggests chocolate is involved.) Tabitha Peterson then advises him that “they don’t make them like that in Canada.” (It’s not yet known what snacks Team Canada’s women’s team enjoyed during their break in game.)

Here is a shot of the snacks, and a plea for Team USA to tell us what they are.

The women went on to win the match by two points after entering the final end all tied up, so maybe Hackner is right. Perhaps those little snacks, that may or may not be donut holes, are in fact Team USA’s secret weapon.
