Before the men to take the track for the 1000m, the women race the 1500m final. Here’s how to watch online or by live stream.
Buckle up for a South Korea sweep. The top two favorites in the women’s 1500m short track race are both hometown heroes, Choi Min-jeong and Shim Suk-hee. Canadian Kim Boutin is expected to take bronze, though can you really rule out a rising South Korean star sneaking onto the podium? South Korea is a crazy good short track powerhouse, after all.
The women’s 1500m final will race in the early hours of Friday, Feb. 17, around about 4 a.m. ET. This, of course, is primetime for die-hard fans in South Korea, so can’t fault the scheduling there. (We get our snowboard and figure skating in primetime, they get their short track.) After the women’s 1500m, the men’s 1000m will race as well. Medals will be awarded symbolically with stuffed animals at the races, with a formal medal ceremony to follow in a separate building.
NBC is the official broadcaster of the Winter Olympics and they’re playing fast and loose with the definition of “live.” That said, their live streams are the real deal and if you’re setting an alarm for the 4 a.m. start, you’ll have an online stream ready for you to watch online. If you’re not about that 4 a.m. life, NBC will likely air the short track event during the day, though truly when is anyone’s guess.
